| This page contains the basic minimum guidelines
for the Adult/Image_Galleries category,
editors at DMOZ use to decide whether a site should be listed. Since
every site is different, its not possible to come up with a sure fire
formula for getting listed, but if these basic guidelines are followed,
your site will likely be accepted. For the official Adult Guidelines

Free sponsor content can be listed ONCE per category, so if your an 'early bird' great...if not, using these pictures and attempting to gain a listing will most likely be in vain. Number of Banners/Ads: The rule of thumb for banners is that a site must have more pics than banners. You can put your pics on html pages however, a small text link at the top of the page would be the best choice of advertising on these picture pages to ensure a listing. If you link the thumbs directly to the picture, that is fine too. However, putting 5 banners per page on the pages before the images could cost you a listing anyway. So be careful. Blind Links: Avoid blind links. Make sure every link goes where it says is going. Mouseovers are OK, but the guideline here is that if a link fools the editor, it will likely fool the surfer and should not be listed. Enter Links: The links to a sites content should always be clearly marked and easy to find. You can have 100 pics on the site but if an editor has trouble finding them, it wont get listed. The guideline here is that ENTER links must be easy to find and a surfer should not have to make any more than 3 clicks to get to the images. Site Title: Many webmasters submit sites with titles beginning with "A" in hopes of getting a high listing. This is a mistake. First of all, it irritates the editors right off the bat because they are fully aware of why you chose the title you did. This automatically is strike one against the editor listing your site. More important, most of the hits you receive come from the search engines, not the directory itself. You are much better off giving your site a good keyword name and an ACCURATE description that contains APPROPRIATE keywords. Don't 'keyword stuff' your descriptions either. They will likely be changed if you do. Full Page Ads: Sites are not supposed to be refused because of full page ads. They are an extra step to the pics and if the site has a lot of other ads it may be refused for being a banner farm. If you do use a full page ad, make sure the link to the pics is clearly marked. Remember the "3 clicks to the pics" guideline when using FPAs. Consoles: Sites that have multiple consoles or disabled back buttons will not be listed. One blur or exit console is allowed, however they will be taken into consideration when the editor reviews the site. What Qualifies as a Site?: A site must be self contained with a main page connected to the gallery page (pages) and pics. You can submit several sites in directories on the same server/domain to the same category as long as they are all different and don't use the same images. You don't have to use your index page for DMOZ. If you want, you can keep your optimized main pages for SE's, link lists etc. and make a "clean" main page for submission to DMOZ. Mirror Sites and Doorways: Mirror sites (the same site on another server/domain/subfolder) are not allowed. If you try submitting a mirror site you may lose both listings. Making different entrance pages to the same site will also get you in trouble. The listings in the categories are check constantly, so don't try these tricks, you WILL get caught, and the penalty is not worth it. AVS Sites: AVS sites need a minimum of 20 free easy to find pics to be listed in DMOZ. Each category has an AVS section. Make sure you submit right down the the AVS category that's appropriate to your site. Where Do I Submit?: Just click 'DMOZ Submit' on the left and choose the appropriate category. |
